Quilting, Binding, Felt and More
Hi Everyone and welcome back to my sewing room. I’m sorry I didn’t get on here last week to update you on my quilt, however there was so little to update you on that there wasn’t really much point. I was hoping to get the quilt finished last week, but was too busy with other things and so didn’t get as much done on it as I would have liked.
I announced two days ago on my Facebook and Instagram accounts that I had finished the quilting and was ready for binding, I even had a celebratory cupcake! Alas I had forgotten about the little four-patches in the centre of each block! So as it turns out, I’m not finished the quilting. Hopefully I’ll get that done this weekend. Maybe even have a second celebratory cupcake!
I really had quite a lot of fun quilting those curly feathers in the border. I matched my thread colour to the fabric to hide my wobbles and mistakes, which certainly worked well. A little too well I think, the quilting really is a little hard to see unfortunately but, you quilt and you learn. I’m going to go with some more straight line quilting for the four-patches I think.
I also haven’t yet been able to get started on the binding as I don’t have quite the right fabric for the job. I did head out to spotlight yesterday but couldn’t find anything even remotely suitable. I wasn’t really expecting to though, I really went there to get some felt and so had a look for something for the binding while I was there. I’m hoping to head out to one of my local patchwork shops this afternoon, I’m just waiting for the kids to wake up from their naps.
Even though I was unable to get any fabric for the binding yesterday, I did get a fun pile of felt. I’m not really sure what I’m going to do with the felt yet, but I have some dreams of some sort of felt appliques starting to form in the rather crowded corner of my brain that is devoted to my quilting. As felt is 40% off at the moment, I thought it was a good time to stock up on a few colours, ready to pull out when I need them.
So, hopefully this afternoon I’ll find some fabric for my binding and get it washed and ready to go. I would particularly like to get the binding made and machined onto the front tonight, ready for me to start hand sewing to the back tomorrow if I get a chance. I actually have a friend of mine coming round tomorrow to get started on her very first quilt, so we’ll see, I might be able to get a little of the hand sewing done while she’s working.
So, all going to plan, I should have this quilt finished by the end of the weekend, ready to start work on my next couple of projects on Monday.
Till then,
Keep On Stitching!
