On to the Quilting

Well I did it, I completed all of last week’s goals, and have even started working on this week’s already. So last week I needed to get done the border around the centrepiece, put all the blocks together with a couple of whole quilt borders, and figure out a possible applique design for the outer border. Once the borders were on I decided it didn’t need the applique I was thinking of and so the top was done and ready for sandwiching.

This week’s goals were to:

  • Clear away all my fabrics for this quilt that I had strewn about

  • Find a backing fabric

  • Baste the quilt

  • Start quilting, hopefully getting the centrepiece quilted and decide on my quilting designs for the rest of the blocks

It is Tuesday evening now and I have just finished basting my quilt, ready to start on the quilting! So that’s 3 of my 4 goals for this week already done, hopefully I’ll get started on the fourth one tomorrow. I tried out a new (to me anyway) technique of basting on this quilt which ended up working really well for me. It is just basted with normal basting spray and a few pins, the new part was using clamps to hold my layers to the bench while I basted. This clamping method and my new, high cutting bench made basting this quilt so much easier than previous quilts! Much quicker, easier, and less sticky than masking tape. I think I’ll be doing all my quilts like this in future, well at least until I get my dreamed for longarm, but that’s probably quite a few years away yet!

Even though I am zooming ahead on this week’s goals, I am sadly behind on my plans for this month. If you remember, a few weeks ago I told you my goals for January were to have this quilt finished and the pattern in my shop. Given that I still have all of the quilting and the entire pattern to write with only 6 days left in the month (and a baby and toddler to look after) I don’t think I’m going to make it, hopefully it will be done no more than maybe a week late though, leaving me enough time to also get my goals for February done.

Till next week,

Keep On Stitching.
