Pride and Prejudice and… Elephants?
What do elephants and Pride and Prejudice have in common? Not much really. However as one of my favourite movies (well mini-series really, BBC 1995 version) it is a fairly common sewing go to for me and today I'm going back to my old favourite. I know this series so well that it doesn’t matter how much I miss while moving about in-between my cutting board, sewing machine, and iron, just listening to it is enough.
So, why elephants you may ask (everyone else did). Well, why not? I like elephants and I like quilting, so why not make an elephant quilt? I’ve had numerous people ask me who I’m making this quilt for, as if you need a reason to make an elephant quilt!
I am one of those unfortunate people who work at night, however on the plus side, once I’ve done my work I am free to sit at my desk and sew! While I started out taking a hexi-quilt to work, I was getting rather tired of it and needed a change. I thought perhaps some hand applique might keep me going. Not long afterwards the elephant quilt floated into my mind. The next morning, after just a couple hours sleep I got straight to work and spent the following couple of days drawing up elephants, cutting, and fusing them to blocks ready to take to work for my next shift. And so here they are!
Still to do are the eyes of the bottom half, some bows for the girls, sashing, border, quilting and binding. I am particularly exciting for the bright sashing and binding that I have planned. Look out for developments in the next few days.
