Sidney’s Quilt Well Underway

Sidney has been working very hard since our lesson last week and managed to get her quilt top all pieced together at home. I had her over again yesterday for a couple of hours. During which time we got her quilt top all nicely pressed, fixed up a few places where her seams were a little too wonky or close to the edge, pieced the backing and pin basted it all ready to start quilting next lesson.

We used the plank method to baste the quilt as my table is much too small to lay the whole thing out, nor do I have any floor space in my little house. This is only the second time I have basted a quilt using the plank method. As this quilt is quite a bit larger than the other one I used planks for it was a bit more difficult to roll the top and backing on nice and tightly, but with the two of us rolling together, one at each end of the plank it went along nicely.

And here it is, all basted and ready to go.

I'm loving how this is turning out. The points where the blocks meet are a little off, but for an 11 year old's first attempt she is doing such a great job.

Till next time, happy quilting!
