A New Little Helper
Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t been posting here in a while, I have two fairly good excuses:
First, baby number two, Johannes, joined the family at the beginning of August. He and his big sister have certainly been keeping me on my toes! He’s such a sweet little thing though that I don’t mind, and Evangeline absolutely loves him too.
And second, my sewing machine broke a few weeks before Johannes’ birth. It went down to Albury to get fixed and my mum was going to bring it back up to me when she came up to meet the baby. That plan got scuppered however when we were all put into lockdown. So my fixed and ready to use machine has been locked down in Albury for weeks now. I wonder if it’s missing me and much as I miss it?
So as a result of the above reasons, there’s not been much happening in my sewing room of late. Instead I’ve been putting my limited free to time towards working on getting my animals digitised and instructions written up for my On Safari quilt. The pattern is now written and ready to go except for the final photos of the completed quilt. Which sadly hasn’t been finished yet as my machine is in Albury! At least the pattern is ready to go for when I do get the quilt finished.
Now I am turning my attention towards my room. I’ve started to tidy up and clear out all the stuff I’ve been keeping behind the bar. It is time for the bar to go! The plan is to get someone to remove the bar and then get some cupboards installed instead. The second photo below shows only half of the stuff I had behind there! This will give me some good storage space and also open up the room a bit, allowing me to move around my couch and design wall. I also have a cabinet to go in with all this rearranging. With a desk top to go on top of the cabinet, this will be my new cutting bench. I’m very excited to have a cutting bench at a decent height for my poor back, and I’ll have even more storage space in the cabinet too!
During my purge of random things yesterday I came across a rather ugly blanket and my bags of scraps that are too small to use I’ve been collecting. So rather than just throwing them all out for being in my room untouched for too long (which I was very tempted to do), out came my old sewing machine and I whipped up a quick new bed for the dogs. It might be ugly, but at least it’s soft and comfy, and I don’t think they really care too much about the aesthetics anyway.
So that’s it. That’s all that has been happening in my sewing room of late. Hopefully Bathurst will be out of lockdown soon so I can travel down to Albury to visit with my family, introduce everyone to Johannes and pick up my sewing machine. Till then I need to get back to work on sorting out this room of mine.
Happy Sewing!
